When one object blocks another, it indicates that the blocking object is closer. Provides information about depth order by showing which objects block the vi ew of others. This indicates to us which objects are closer. According to the bo ok many researchers argue that it is the most reliable of all the depth cues and t hat it is misleading only in the case of “accidental viewpoints”.

We use the principle of occlusion and T-junctions to determine if an object continues behind other. When one object partially blocks another, we perceive the blocked object as continuing behind occuluder. T-junctions in the image signal where one object ends and another begins, giving the brain cues for depth and layering.
